Frequently Asked Questions

How do I qualify for SBDC-funded advising?

Clients referred through the Dallas Metropolitan Small Business Development Center receive my full advisory services at no direct cost to them - the SBDC covers fees for eligible Texas Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs. To request counseling, please click the link below to be connected to the Dallas Metro SBDC office:

How do I qualify for small business loans and grants?

Qualification depends on revenue, time in business, credit, and collateral - but most entrepreneurs miss hidden grant opportunities. Our Fund phase identifies your best options and prepares you for lender-ready applications.

How do I get started with launch planning?

As your SBDC Advisor, we'll begin with a free 30-minute Discovery call to assess your idea, then build a customized roadmap covering market analysis and business planning - no templates (yet), just strategies tailored to your goals and needs.

Why would a former CEO and current business owner work as an SBDC Advisor?

I’ve spent my career in the "high-stakes" world of international business and private ownership. I know how lonely and confusing it can be at the top. I do this because I believe that when local owners have clarity, the entire community wins. It’s my way of sharing the roadmap I’ve spent decades building.

Is there really no cost for this counseling?

Correct. Because the SBDC is funded by the SBA and the State of Texas, my professional consulting services are pre-funded. You receive executive-level strategy and 'The Clarity Effect' frameworks at no direct cost to you, allowing you to invest your capital where it matters most: your growth.

How do I achieve sustainable growth?

Sustainable growth comes from balancing revenue acceleration with operational capacity - most businesses scale revenue but break operations. Our full Launch/Fund/Scale/Optimize framework prevents that crash. Book a Strategy Call to audit your growth foundation.

What funding paths do you guide me through?

I help you understand and navigate the main funding paths available for your stage of business, including grants, loans, and investors. As your SBDC advisor, I guide you in clarifying your funding needs, reviewing your business plan and projections, and preparing stronger materials so you can apply with confidence and answer funders’ questions clearly.

Do I need a finished business plan before we meet?

Not at all. Whether you have a 50-page draft or just a rough idea on a napkin, we start where you are. My role is to help you move from 'Day Zero' confusion to a foundational blueprint. We will build the logic of your plan together. Note: I don't write your plan - you do. But we'll strategize and build a functional roadmap.

Is my business information kept confidential?

Absolutely. Trust is the foundation of any 'Aha!' moment. As an SBDC Advisor, I adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines. Your proprietary ideas, financials, and strategies stay between us.

Can you help me get a loan?

While I nor the SBDC lend money directly, I specialize in making you 'Capital Ready.' We will refine your business plan and financial projections so you can approach lenders with a practical, bankable strategy that shows measurable potential for results.

I've been in business for years. Can the SBDC still help me?

Yes. Many of my clients are established owners who are 'in business' but feel stuck or overwhelmed by complexity. We use a 'Scale and Optimize' approach to strip away the noise and find the optimal path to your next level of revenue.

How often can we meet?

Business growth is a marathon, not a sprint. We typically meet for 30-minute or 60-minute strategy sessions to dive deep into your operations. Some clients meet with me bimonthly or monthly for ongoing accountability, while others reach out for specific 'pivot points' as they arise. The frequency is dictated by progress.

Do you write the business plan?

I provide the map, but you are the driver. I offer the frameworks, templates, and strategic logic to guide you, but the most successful owners are those who 'own' the process. Think of me as your co-pilot for the journey.

How is this different from a regular consultant?

Most consultants give you a report and leave. Through the SBDC, I act as a long-term resource. We work through the Launch, Fund, Scale, and Optimize roadmap together, meeting as often as needed to ensure you are hitting your milestones.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

Your success is a priority, and our scheduled time is a dedicated commitment to your business growth. If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. This allows me to offer that session to another entrepreneur on the waiting list. Thank you for respecting the professional nature of our partnership and the resources provided by the SBDC.
